Steve undertook his ‘Cost of Living Survey’ between 15th – 20th May in Billesley, Brandwood, Bournville and Selly Oak. 76% of constituents who responded to a survey conducted by Steve McCabe MP have said they are worse off than 12 months ago.

Steve said:

I’m interested to know how local families are being affected by rises in the cost of living and the issues that cause most concern to local people. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Birmingham Selly Oak MP Steve McCabe is holding a consultation event this Saturday – 26th March at St Edwards Roman Catholic School, Greenland Road, Selly Park, B29 7PN.

The event will take place between 11am and 12.30 and is part of Steve’s ongoing discussion with local residents about the future of the site. Over 1,000 local people have already taken part in the consultation.

Five hundred people from across the Selly Oak constituency took part in a survey which is part of a series conducted by Steve McCabe into the public’s attitudes to policing, anti social behaviour and criminal justice.

The survey reveals that there is real anxiety about cuts in policing, opposition to abolishing Anti Social Behaviour Orders and scepticism about the cost and benefits of elected Police Commissioners.

West Midlands Police fear that up to 800 staff – including 400 officers – will be lost within 5 months rising to 2,200 staff by 2015. That would mean more than 40 officers in each parliamentary constituency.

The Tories are saying that these cuts can be met by efficiency savings. But the bottom line is that there will be fewer police. That means fewer officers to respond to 999 calls, investigate burglaries and walk the beat.
Tell me what you think  by filling in my survey.

On Thursday 2nd September I invited members of my constituency to a listening panel on the future of local policing. All sorts of people from across the constituency attended and we discussed many different issues, such as elected police commissioners and concerns people had with the cuts the police could be facing.

My recent consultations include asking residents for their views on the future of the Selly Oak hospital site, immigration policy and elected police commissioners. Click here for further detail.
